Discord is a communication platform originally created for gamers but today used by professional communities, companies and organisations worldwide. It is where the Commerce Commons co-office lives – around the clock, seven days a week.
Channels
Discord is built around channels – themed rooms for text, voice or video. Think of them as different rooms in an office: one for general conversation, one for industry news, one for questions, and one for job opportunities.
Server
A Discord server is a single space containing all channels and all members. Commerce Commons has its own private server accessible only to paying members.
App and web
Discord is available as an app for iPhone and Android, as a desktop app for Mac and Windows, and as a web app in your browser. You choose how you want to stay connected.
Cost
Discord is free to use. As a Commerce Commons member you only need to create a free Discord account – your membership then gives you access to our private server.
You receive an invitation
Once your subscription is active, we send a personal invite link to your email address. The link is unique to you and gives you direct access to the Commerce Commons server.
You create an account
If you don't already have a Discord account, create one for free at discord.com. It takes under two minutes. Choose a username you're comfortable with – it doesn't need to be your real name.
You join the server
Via the invite link you join the Commerce Commons server. You'll immediately see all channels and can start reading conversations and introducing yourself in the welcome channel.
You participate at your own pace
There's no requirement on how active you need to be. Some colleagues are online daily, others check in a few times a week. You decide when and how you engage.
Introduce yourself when you join. Share what you work on and what you hope to get from the community.

The Commerce Commons Discord server is private. No one can find it via search and no one can join without a personal invitation. Your Discord username doesn't need to be linked to your real name. We never see your password and have no access to your Discord activity outside our server.
